Object Description

Finca Serrato enjoys a superb location in the Montes de Málaga, 3 miles from the old connecting road between Málaga and Colmenar, 8 miles from Colmenar.  Serrato looks out over the slopes of the Sierra Nevada mountains. On the Serrato estate you will find a traditional Spanish ‘cortijo’ (cottage) which is currently being rebuilt as a Hostal Rural. Apart from several B&B rooms there is a comfortable apartment separate from the main building. Serrato is the place for a good meal, tapas or barbeque.
The cortigo is set in 500 acres of land,  partly covered with olive, almond and fig-trees and surrounded by cactuses, cork-oaks and a wide variety of wild flowers.
A stay at Serrato for a couple of days or perhaps even longer is an exceptional experience for people who like to get off the beaten track to enjoy the beauty of nature, serenity and, at the same time, feel truly in the heart of one of the most beautiful parts of Andalusia.  On the other hand the location serves as an ideal base for visiting cities such as Malaga and Granada and on the way down you will even catch sight of the Mediterranean.
The cane room you will find on the first floor, arriving via wonderful stone stairs and a unique old wooden door. Its cane ceiling and authentic tiled floor create a pleasant atmosphere. There is a double bed (2 metres) and the Cane Room has its own bathroom with shower and toilet. Authentic details have been retained as far as possible. The Almacen Room, a room that can be separated from the apartment, has just been finished but is already our pride! Almacen stands for storage as this room used to be the storing place for the almond and olive harvest.  In the room 2 single beds which, on request, can easily be put together. The Almacen room features a spacious bathroom with shower, sink and toilet. For more pictures please look at the photo gallery.
The Little Grape House is the next room that soon will have its private bathroom. For the time being, as some of the other rooms, the little grape house can be used for an overnight stay, sharing shower and toilet.  It is also available as an additional room for children.  For this room we have special prices on request.
Appartement - At Serrato there is a detached apartment, separate from the main building. It has been named Almacen (storage), since in former days it was used as a storageroom for almonds and olives. In the apartment you will find all the necessary furnishing in kitchen and living-room, e.g. dinner table + 4 chairs, sofa, satellite television with dvd, and stereo. The comfortable bathroom with shower, toilet and wide sink is linked to a nice bedroom. The apartment has its own terrace where you can enjoy breakfast in the morning sun. The kitchen is supplied with standard devices and kitchen equipment. Of course you can always make use of our breakfast service (6 euro p.p. per day) or other meals served at Serrato.

Serrato is situated 19km north east of Malaga, on the borders of the large national park ‘Montes de Malaga’. The environment is well known for its colourful and diverse nature, the openness and warmth of the inhabitants and its mild mini climate. Serrato is centralised to some interesting cities worth seeing like Sevilla, Ronda, Granada, Antequira, Cordoba and Malaga. The beautiful beaches of the Mediterranean See are never further away than a half hours drive. In and around the region you will find extended nature reserves with diverse flora and fauna, as original and sumptuous as you will not find elsewhere in Europe.

Sport, Activities and Attractions

Hiking:
First of all, around Serrato you will find plenty of opportunities to take a walk for a few hours through olive and almond orchards or wild nature. Furthermore, between the mountains there is an extensive network of small unmetalled roads connecting the different hamlets. The area consists of olive and almond trees, vineyards, as well as open woods, bushes and spices. The tracks are easy to walk on and the tours vary in duration from one to eight hours.
Just three miles away you reach the large Montes de Malaga, a nature reserve with mainly pine forests. Routes with different levels of difficulty are clearly defined. From North to South the park stretches 15 miles. In the South you will find beautiful views over the Mediterranean and Malaga and, if there is good visibility and with a bit of luck, you will even be able to see Morocco.
At a further distance are Las Alpujarras, the Sierra Nevada, Sierra de Tejeda, Sierra de Loja en El Torcal de Antequera. Each of these places has its own typical appearance and character. From untamed mountains to impressive rock formations or beautiful forests and lakes, a large variety of nature.  During winter time we can recommend walking-tours through the snow in Las Alpujarras and the Sierra Nevada.

Biking:
Around Serrato the network of minor roads, pathways, mule tracks and dirt roads as connections between the small villages is an ideal place for the mountain biker seeking the medium rated tours. The area is covered with greenery like olive and almond trees, spices, bushes and natural forests. The tracks are alternately sloping and steep, the routes varying from one to eight hours.
Also, just three miles away in the forests of Montes de Malaga a network of many different bike path, varying in difficulty, is set out. Distance of the park from North to South is approximately 15 miles. Tours in the Southern part will surprise you with exciting views over the Mediterranean and Malaga and during clear weather you might even make out the contours of Morocco.
The road system in the area mainly consists of secondary and forest roads, generally in good condition. The highest peak of the Montes de Malaga is 3000 feet so for the trained biker easy to do. It is not for nothing that sportsmen even from the Madrid region regularly use this region to practise their skills!
Further away the bikers will find their challenges on the tracks of the Las Alpujarras, the Sierra Nevada, Sierra de Tejeda, Sierra de Loja en El Torcal de Antequera. Each of these places offering its own typical appearance and character to enjoy during the different cycling tours; rough mountains, beautiful rock formations or calm forests and peaceful lakes.

Beach and Sea:
The beaches east of Malaga are approximately 12 miles from Serrato. Little coastal villages offer you a large variety of fish restaurants in a pleasant atmosphere. No high-rise flats and foreign tourists, just the Spanish themselves in their own environment. The dynamic international places can be found in the direction of Torremolines (45 minutes) and Marbella (90 minutes), on the longest and most beautiful beaches of Spain.
